While an enhancement shaman

 Ideal 5 man group?
Hi there - long time lurker and all that...decided to post a query I've got.

Some friends and I - who all play on different servers - are going to roll new toons on the same server for the express purpose of levelling together and trying to eventually get into some high end content.

We all have various 70s of our own, and are fairly experienced, and have decided that we want to level simply by runnning dungeons repeatedly. We can support the new 5 man team with some initial funds and sundries like bags etc.

Now, what we are having trouble deciding upon is what the ideal 5 man would be. So far we have the following confimed:

- Warrior
- Holy Priest
- Warlock

The other two slots are undecided, but we are leaning towards a shadow priest to provide additional shackling / mind control etc, and buffs from the Lock. My only worry is this gives us a tank, and 3 clothies - and not a great amount of crowd control either.

Its looking like the 5th slot will be mine, and I cant really decide what would be best for the group.

I'd appreciate what people think of as the optimum 5 man setup, to hopefully either give me input into my toon choice, or convince some of the others to change.

Thanks!

Welcome then :)

Running "Normal Instances", I am sure you don't need a holy priest, shadow can heal pretty much everything, especially these days we love them even in heroics and raids.

But if you want some flexibility in the healing/offtanking area, why not add a druid to the lot. Can go feral or heal. An extra shammy can go dps or heal. A Paladin can do it all.

Warlock, Mage, Rogue..all good for different kind of CC and dps. I think you have a lot of room here and pretty much any combination will work.

If it is of any help, we have done every Instance up and including SM (and afterwards the elite trolls in Jin Alor which go to 51 elite) with a team of:

Warrior, Mage, Hunter, Shaman and a guest

Ok..so if you are set on warlock, warrior, priest, I would add
1 from druid/pally/shaman
1 from rogue/mage/hunter

I've found Tank-Healer-Shadowpriest-Warlock-Mage to be a very effective group just about anywhere, due to the flexibility of all the CC. The tank and healer can be basically any class that can spec for those jobs, though I'd probably go with a paladin, druid or shaman healer for the extra buffs they provide, if you have a shadow priest already in your DPS lineup.

^^ Reported *sigh*

My personal perfect group would be:

Paladin
Shaman
Rogue
Mage
Priest

However, I'd agree with Det (to a certain extent) that if you absolutely must go with Warrior, Priest, Warlock then pick one from:

Rogue or Mage
Paladin or Shaman

all you need is a tank + healer, rest can be any random.

if you have pally+druid, then you have 2 players who could spec/play tank/offtank and/or main/off healers. toss in a priest and you have someone who could heal or dps (depending on spec), leaving the last 2 slots for any random class (damage prefered).

My ideal 5 man.

Warrior tank
Holy priest healing
Fire mage dps
Enhancement Shaman dps
Warlock dps

While an enhancement shaman cannot provide the same amount of mana return as a shadow priest, the small amount is very good. Grace of air totem is a huge boost to the three casters. ImpDS for spell dmg from the priest and ProM as well as PoH and renew for healing.

Fire mage for the single target bosses, with locks bringing all they can to the table.

I find that priest > paladin for 5 man heroic and non heroic instances. Full party healing is what a priest does best.

I do take a rogue quite often, it is unfortunate they suffer so many of the issues of melee dps.. A shaman is truly better than a rogue for a 5 man IMO. Totems + the ability to back away and heal himself, or use effective range dps if the boss has some sort of aoe dmg ability (whirlwind/earthquake etc) as well as heroism means that enhancement shaman > rogue in my groups.

As far as the warrior goes, the more dmg he can mitigate the more dps I can do as a holy priest. I have found that that small additional dps can really speed up an instance.

My normal group is by no means OP or do we set any speed records, but being able to do heroics in just over an hour is a great thing.
